CheaXin’s B’day Party @ Seasons : First Event Photography using d-SLR & Ethics of a Photographer

Candid shot of CheaXin clapping when everyone were singing the birthday song. I think JingYi took this. Good shot. =)Last Saturday, CheaXin invited me (and many others) to her birthday party @ Seasons, Centerpoint. It was my first event photography with a d-SLR (EOS 350D, borrowed from CheaXin’s dad) and I was a bit over.

Was having a lot of fun capturing candid shots of people laughing, chatting and etc. The 55-200mm lens was pretty good when used together with Speedlite 430EX. I was a bit over tho, many people weren’t really happy with what I did, I got a lot of angry faces in return. It’s my fault tho, like what CheaXin’s dad said, “Always respect the wishes of the subjects you are taking”, so yea, I should had stopped when they told me to. Anyway, learned my lesson, so yea, sorry people. =)

Guess that’s all for now, don’t feel like doing much typing, I’ll let the photos do the rest of the talking… =) Continue Reading…

Meetings, Meetings and More Meetings!

I had been staying back in school (and Gadong) until 4pm or 5pm everyday for meetings, meetings and more meetings! It’s not too bad tho, except that I can’t start working on my computing AS P2 practical programming project (bro wants to play Maple Story at night). =(

I enjoy some of the meetings very much, like Photography club and PYRO (not really a meeting). =) We had our AJK (committee) selection meeting on Tuesday, and I was elected as the Secretary (I think there’s 2 of us, and this is my forth committee position, lol).

During that meeting, I got my chance to test out the two d-SLR I might be getting soon (by end of this year, I hope),the Nikon D40 VS Canon 400D. I lean towards Nikon D40 after the test as it’s more ergonomic and the ‘feel’ is good (solid, the control is in the right position and etc). Canon 400D on the other hand feels kind of plastic, and erm, the kit lens is weak, it has no match for Nikon’s 18-55mm kit (I took a pretty good shot of Louis and Canon 400D with it), LoL. Nikon VS Canon: D40 VS 400D

Facing a very big dilemma now, man, really don’t know whether I should spend B$1,200++ on an EOS 400D (spend more, but more features) or B$900++ on Nikon D40 (left more $$ for lens, but the body itself has less feature).

As I mentioned in previous post, I am planning to buy a d-SLR, probably within weeks (if I make up my mind early, or someone offered me a good second-hand deal), else I’ll wait till after my AS paper. I have around B$1,500 to spend, but I’ll try to spend as little as I can. Since this is the first BIG purchase in my entire life, I’ll take my time to think about it. Family isn’t very supportive on this (brother said I am crazy, mom no comment since I am spending the $$ I earned myself), so yea, I have to depend on myself, boo. =(

Well, it’s not about choosing the d-SLR itself only, it’s about choosing the system (when we talk about d-SLR, it’s not about the camera/body itself only, it’s about the system which includes the body, the lens, flash units and etc). The decision I made on this is going to stick with me forever (or cost me a fortune to change my decision): if I choose Nikon D40, I am going to use Nikon forever, the lens, the flash and etc and same things for Canon.

Updates: I end up with the D40, for more, read here

R.I.P My *Beloved* Camera

God, MY *BELOVED* CAMERA DIED! I still can’t accept it, and am still constantly checking it to see if it has miraculously recovered by itself (my Nokia N-2100 did). =(

Damn it man, so suddenly! I did nothing: didn’t drop it, didn’t ‘wet’ it, nothing! All I did is recharging it so brother can bring it with him to Hong Kong (vacation), and when I turn it on, the screen is black, wtf? Everything is working well, the settings, the video recording (can record sound nia, the screen still black), the AF assist lamp, the shutter, the flash, everything! Still can take photos, flash still fires, but, the picture is totally black! Crap, not sure what’s wrong, probably aperture is not working or something, man.. =(

Mom’s going to kill me (yes, she doesn’t know about it, yet). Sigh. =(

I don’t know man, should I repair it (but Brunei ah, don’t know la)? Or buy a new compact digital camera? Or is it the time to upgrade to d-SLR? Frustrated man, crap.

And I am so stress about my studies man, damn, I am too lazy, urgh. =( Maybe time for another ‘maintenance mode’. *shrug* Haven’t start my Computing paper 2 project, omfg… *cureless*
