04.04.08 - I Reached My Ultimate Tensile Stress

Ok, lame title, haha, kind of stress about my Computing these days, blame myself for being ke-kiang but yet lazy, sigh.

According to The Secret, I should think positive, so yea, I am taking a rest now, watched some comedy and did some post-processing, oh yea~ it makes me feel good. =) Watched the DVD (The Secret) this morning, it’s.. quite nice. =)

It’s something that resonate with my philosophy in a number of stuffs, including religions and psychology and etc. However, I didn’t get so into it, yet, it takes time to digest them, probably I should read the book, the movie is a bit too intense. =p (like non-stop streaming of thoughts and ideas into your brain, urgh)

Well, I completed 20% of my project, doesn’t go quite smoothly but I have to believe that I can. =)

Bah, time for the photos to do the talking, hehe, and oh yea, this is the first time I blog on the new Wordpress 2.5, and oh, it’s SO cool! Darn it, they should release this before I decided to go with Flickr! They now have a nifty built-in Gallery system! Grrrr…

P.S: And the full screen post editor is really nice to work with! Especially when you need to move many 500px photos around like me, hehe! Kudos Wordpress developers!

the_gods

^ Took these when I was praying at the temple, during Chinese New Year (12 mid night). =) Was kind of afraid to shoot tho, because some people think it’s some sort of taboo? Not sure. I like the way the top part of this shot is over-exposed by a light (not sure what light tho). And the smokes added some dramas into it, too.

in_the_temple_vintage

^ Probably my only in-focus shot for that night (I was manual focusing on the 50mm). I photoshop-ed 3 variations, this one is vintage version. There’s a B&W version and a normal version (lol).

nice_buddha_bokeh

^ I just LOVE the bokeh of those orange light (it’s actually a massive number of small Buddha statues, people donate to the temple and wrote their name on those Buddha status or something).

aperture_too_small_sigh

^ This is taken a couple months ago, I think. I was randomly picking up photos to Photoshop, so yea, you see. =p I really like the details but I guess I should had used a much smaller aperture, darn it! =\ (not enough DoF, ie. not the whole subject in focus)

desmond_smile

^ See how random this post is getting? Here, I’ll drop in a candid of Desmond as the closing shot for this post. =p I like the natural smile he had, and the flickering glow of the candles, as well as those Pizza-Hut staffs behind him. This was taken during his birthday gathering last year.

Woah a really random post, but hey, random is beauty! :) sorry to hear about you working so hard for the project, it must be very tiring… take care and all the best.

For the photos, they’re very lovely! Well I shall reciprocate the kind act you’ve done for me a few days back. No prize for guessing what kind act is that, you’ll know it if you continue reading this comment :D

First photo - unique composition I must say, because as far as I know most photographers would prefer symmetry and desperately try to get the thing smack middle in their viewfinder. I find the shadows very interesting! And what is more interesting is that even with very strong backlighting, there is still a whole lot of details in the shadows.

Second photo - wow using manual focus isn’t easy! It takes a lot of experience (and luck!) to get the shot perfectly focused. Claps!

Third photo - the tower that holds the names of donors in the blurred background reminds me of a local temple. They have like 18 or more of those big towers in the main temple, and they’re constantly rotating. The orange circles of light reminds me of nighttime cityscape photography :) very very lovely.

Fourth photo - no worries about the DOF. It’s not important to get the whole object in focus - it’s only important to focus on places where you want your viewers to focus on. What’s the white coloured stuff? Mould?

Fifth (and last) photo - lovely candle-light glow on the face! And what really impresses me is the sharpness of the subject (aka Desmond). Birthday shots are usually blurry and out of focus because everyone is busy moving around, haha!

poli275: haha, thanks for your kind words, =) I am still beginner anyways, and would be pretty inactive for this 2 months, so yea, take your time. =p

teddY: Haha, blame myself, for procrastinating till this very end.=\ Haha, thanks for your reciprocation, it’s greatly appreciated. =p

For third photo, yeap, that’s the one, hehehehe. =D I didn’t realize I have these shots till I look back my folders that day, haha, a lot of luck for this shot to turn out this well (I like it anyway). =p

I am not so sure myself about what’s on the forth shot, maybe like you said, =p It’s a dead stick or something anyway, so yea, maybe. But well, it’s exposed to the sun, I thought molds died when they’re heated up by the sun? Not sure. =p\

Yea, I was shock myself when I saw it turning to be so sharp, I certainly do not remember having such a shot, =S I think that one is 1/50th sec, and still, I wonder why it’s sharp as the subject is laughing (and thus must had quite some movement) =S

You’ve inspired me to start digging deep into my photo archives as well :) I think I should be digging soon, I hope I can get some decent ones though, heh. And yea the last photo is definitely brilliant, it’s surprising that so many of your candid shots turn out to be perfectl focused and composed. I wish I have your spotaneous reflex :p

Lol so ugly man (I mean my face)

IngSiang (Vagabond) Posted on 10 April, 2008 at 7:21 pm

teddY: It’s not my spontaneous reflex, it’s the dSLR’s. =p That’s why it’s single lens REFLEX, haha.

Desmond: Oh c’mon, I heard so many “Desmond is so suai!” in this 4-5 years! =D Serious dude! =p
