Last Wednesday, we (Maktab Duli Health Awareness Club) had a visit to JPMC (Jerudong Park Medical Center).
It was interesting and fun, we get to see luxury rooms (B$800 per month, B$300 per month and such), all the machines and stuffs. I was busy shooting most of the time tho, running to the front of everyone (or tailing at the back) and squeeze from one corner of the room to another corner, just to get the wide-angle shot I want, haha.
Something notable, our ‘tour guide’, Olivia has an amazing accent and very good English, listening to her is enjoyable. =)
Special thanks to JingYi (the President), teacher and Olivia for making this trip such a big success (except for the delay, we reach school at around 5pm+, and some parents were worried I think).
Ok, as usual, I would let the photos do the talking. (Crap, the more I shoot, the less I type. And I think my writing skill is getting worse and worse, although it had never been good)
^ I love this group photo, no one blinked! That’s tough. =p I love the reflection on the glasses behind us, too! =D
P.S: Didn’t use SB-600 for this shoot because 1) rechargeable batteries not here yet 2) it’s a hospital, better don’t flash in case there are babies or something. So I shot most of these at ISO 1600 and f/3.5, the fastest speed (in terms of photography, which is erm, fast shutter speed) I could achieve with my D40 and kit lens. I then clean the photo, ie. remove the noise, by using Noiseware. =p
^ Arriving..
^ Our ‘tour guide’, Olivia. =)
^ We walked a lot throughout the trip! =p And yea, I always walk at the very front to shoot something like this. =p
^ Olivia demonstrating what the small ‘personal gadget’ will do. All I remember is that it has some Astro channels on it, lol. You get that for B$300 per night. =p
^ A talk with the dentist. There’s quite some Q&A going around in this room. =)
^ Taking some pamphlets to stick in MD and share with our fellow school mates.
^ LOL! This is at the entrance of the delivery room. =p Forced Weihon to pose for me, HAHA!
^ Mr. Liew, AKA The Bacteria Man. LoL, jk. =p He tour our group (of 8 persons, the other 8 follow another group) around the lab. He is holding some kind of bacteria in this shot. CaiYen was freaked out by the bacteria, I think, lol.
^ Mr. Liew setting up blood samples for the students to check them out.
^ Students looking at blood samples through a pair of microscope. Funny thing in this shot - Caiyen’s expression at the back, lol. =D
You think I would end this thread without a candid or portrait? You’re wrong. =p
^ I love this one! =p

Seems like a nice trip. Too bad I didn’t go because I had bio practical that started at 1.30.
And yeah, the JPMC rooms are waaayyyy luxurious, like a hotel. I went there one night before. When I was primary 4 or 5, somewhat. There was already TV channels. Adjustable beds by machine. Meals, where you tick from a menu what you want to eat and there’s dozens of selection. And there’s even one where you get to tick food for your family.
But well maybe my info is out of date. Haha.
Very nice photos. And is Wei Hon going to deliver? Puppies don’t need doctors for delivery though. =p
So late one your class, lol. =\ Quite a number who were unable to attend didn’t inform jingyi, else a couple more could make it, like ChiHo (which means more photos, lol).
Yea, i think that’s what Olivia was talking about, all I remember is the Astro channels tho. =p And no, not outdated info, haha, they brought that in 13 years ago, I think, it was the best at that time, lol. =D
Haha, they do actually, especially if they’re delivering 1 dozen or so, you need someone to ensure all of them survived. =p
I was there with my kids (my students) last year.
It was an embarrassing experience for me as they answered “Pharma-man” when Olivia asked,
“Kids, who work in a pharmacy?”
Nonbnue, your students’ response made a laugh! Haha. I took quite a while to figure out the answer: pharmacist? :)
Anyway Ingsiang nice photos, it’s just enthralling to see that your photos are as freaking sharp as always! Mine gets really out of focus from time to time (I suspect this problem got out of hand after I accidentally sat on my digital camera)… and so I usually shoot in very high resolution, scale it down in PS and sharpen the image if needed.
OMG $800 a night for a ward? The most expensive ones in the nearby hospital in m township goes for about MYR500 per night. The ones over there is 3 times more expensive!!!
Your description of the first photo reminded me of something - the Ignobel prize winner for mathemathics for 2006 is a scientists who calculated the minimum number of photos needed to be taken to ensure that nobody blinks in a group photo :) generally the number of photos needed increases exponentially when the number of people increases. Here’s the article :D in case you’re interested.
Nonnie: HAHA! That’s a good answer, man! =D
Teddy: Haha, because I bumped up the ISO, =p Don’t think flash is appropriate in a medical center. =p Dude, gear does matter, if you use a dSLR, I am sure yours would be sharper than mine, =p (I think it’s pretty crap to say that it’s not the camera, it’s the man behind it. I mean, it’s only true when you owned the essential gear. =p)
My camera only 6MP, so yea, I always shoot at that MP (I love big prints, lol), don’t really resize tho, I just upload to flickr and it would automatically resize for me, haha (as it provide a number of different sizes). Sharpening, yea, I used to do that but since I started using Noiseware, I had been shooting at fairly high ISO of 800-1600, so yea, sharp enough and requires really lil’ sharpening (unless there’s a sharpening plugin which is as good as noiseware, haha). =D
$800 per night is for a really, really luxury room. Even have a walk-in wardrobe, and an office table for you to talk with your guest, it’s sort of like a hotel suite. =p
Thanks for the article, haha, an interesting read!! =p I take a lot of group photo too, so yea, much needed formula! =D
iz that u at the back? cos if you are, u’re grown tall(ouch!)~haha!
HAHAHAHAHA =D I ‘dian jiao’!!! ROFL *blush*
